Asare Bediako, Asokwa Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, has announced his intention to contest for the regional chairman position of the ruling party.
Throwing his hat into the ring to challenge Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi, Mr Bediako, promised to unite the rank and file of the party, especially at the grassroots level in the region – which is the party’s strong fortress – so that victory 2020 would be a done deal for the NPP.
According to him, he has over four decades of experience in party politics and therefore is prepared and determined to work for the NPP to continue to benefit from his rich experience.
The Asokwa Constituency Chairman has over the years worked tirelessly to make the main opposition political party – the National Democratic Congress (NDC) – insignificant in that constituency.
According to him, his main agenda is to unite the NPP, make it stronger and attractive so that floating voters would join it to ensure resounding victory.
In a chat with DAILY GUIDE, Mr Asare Bediako said hard work, commitment to party duties, proper planning and management of party activities would be his hallmark, when elected as chairman in the Ashanti Region.
Key Positions
Mr Bediako commands a lot of respect in the NPP, especially in the region. He has held several key positions in the party and also worked tirelessly towards making the party attractive and strong over the years.
A native of Kwabre East in the Ashanti Region, the 63-year-old astute politician, who is happily married with five children, is currently the longest serving NPP constituency chairman in the region.
Firm Promise
Mr. Bediako, who is the immediate past Chairman of the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairmen Association, told the paper that he wanted to continue serving the NPP.
“I was born into this great political party, which is the best political party in Ghana and in Africa, so I will continue to serve and work for this great party until my maker calls me. I will be chairman for every member of our party in the region.
“If I am elected – which I know will come to pass – I will make sure that the party members, supporters and sympathizers are energized so that they would voluntarily work for the NPP to grow from strength to strength,” he assured.
Advice
As a member of the NPP Conflict Resolution Team in the region, Mr Bediako urged party members to discard politics of insults and insinuations.
According to him, the upcoming NPP polls are a family affair and therefore members should guard against politics of personal attacks and insults.
He stated categorically that his campaign would mainly be based on ideas, regarding what he could do to help advance the cause of the party.
Praises Nana
He also admonished the various contestants to use some of their campaign rounds to highlight the significant achievements of President Akufo-Addo’s government so as to win more people for the party.
He noted that introducing the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme within just eight months in political office is a major plus for President Akufo-Addo and so the NPP members should feel proud and support him (president) at all times to deliver more on the promises made to Ghanaians.
