Bekwai (Ash), Nov 11, GNA - Mr Yaw Obimpeh, the incumbent youth organiser, was on Thursday re-elected as the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress at a delegates' congress held at Bekwai.
He polled 61 votes to beat his challenger, Mr John Vianney and Mr Bula Matali, who had 13 and nine votes respectively. Mr Kofi Asiedu Keteke was elected the First Regional Deputy Youth Organiser with the position of Second Regional Youth Organiser going to Mr Bashiru Amissah.
In the regional women's organizer contest, Mrs Anima Wilson polled 60 to beat Madam Agatha Abrafi, who had 15 votes. Mrs Ama Sarponmaa was elected the First Deputy Organiser with the Second Deputy Organizer position going to Hajia Amina Zakaria. Addressing the delegates, Alhaji Awudu Ludwig, the Deputy National Organiser of the NDC, said youth and women constituted important ingredients of the party.
He said it was the objectives of the party to ensure that youth and women leaders were given adequate attention to enable them perform their roles in the party.
Alhaji Ludwig said the NPP would not surrender power easily in the next elections and cautioned the youth and the women wings to dissociate themselves from factionalism and other negative tendencies that would impede the growth of the party.
He said arrangements were underway to organize training courses for youth and women leaders to upgrade their skills so that they could in turn mobilise more sympathizers and supporters into the party. Mr Obimpeh on behalf of the two executives thanked the delegates for electing them and pledged to work harder to enable the party come back to power in 2008.
