A Civic Group in the Ho-West District has urged contestants in the forthcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) Primary in the constituency to eschew misrepresentation of facts and other underhand dealings.

The Ho-West Youth Development Association (HWYDA) in a statement, issued on Tuesday and signed by Justice Afenu, Convener, said already indications were that some candidates were claiming state pro-poor programmes as theirs.

“Our attention has been drawn to the malicious claim by some Parliamentary Aspirants that they intend to distribute free LPG cylinders and stoves to delegates.

“Without any shred of doubt, this action is aimed at hoodwinking delegates into thinking that they (aspirants) have personally funded the distribution of the cylinders and stoves,” the statement said.

It said, indeed those items to rural folks comes under “the Rural LPG Promotional Programme, which is a three-year initiative of President John Mahama”.

The statement said the government programme is “aimed at distributing 350,000 cylinders and stoves to rural folks, of which rural dwellers of Ho-West are not exempted”.

It said the district had indeed received its share of 3,000 cylinders.

The statement said “it therefore smacks of utmost dishonesty and sabotage that this novel initiative by President John Mahama to maintain our forest cover and also make the lives of rural folks more comfortable is being marred by some self-seeking parliamentary aspirants in our constituency”.
