Aspiring Assembly Woman pledges to improve sanitation

Grace Asantewaa Okyere Grace Asantewaa Okyere

Ms Grace Asantewaa Okyere, an aspiring Assembly member for Asaman Oyoko Electoral Area in the New Juaben North Municipality, has pledged to improve sanitation when given the nod come December 17 this year.

She described the sanitation situation in the area as very poor as it leads to perennial flooding and outbreak of diseases during the raining seasons.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA on the “Women’s profile” initiative, the aspirant noted that as a woman she could better engage the assembly to find ways of solving the sanitation problems affecting women and children.

According to her, during rainy seasons, almost the entire electoral area gets flooded, forcing people out of their homes and destroying properties.

She also noted that many houses depended on public toilets and promised to mobilize support towards provision of household toilet facilities.

Ms Okyere therefore called on women to come out in their numbers and vote massively for her in December 17 polls, maintaining: “You have tried the men, try a woman too and see.”

Over the years, according to her, she has supported communal labour with developmental projects including construction of footbridges and so wanted a platform as the people’s representative to do more to help.

The 28-year-old professional teachers is contesting for the first time with four men for the position.
