Assembly approves Kwaebibrem DCE's nomination

Kade, (E/R) July 4, GNA - The Kwaebibrem District Assembly in the Eastern Region on Monday confirmed the nomination of Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye as the District Chief Executive.

He polled 59 out of the 74 votes cast, representing 79.7 percent. Mr Yiadom-Boakye, the incumbent DCE, was immediately sworn into office by Mr Kofi Akrowiah, Asamankese Circuit Court Judge. In a his acceptance speech, Mr Yiadom-Boakye thanked President John Agyekum Kufour and the Assembly members for the confidence reposed in him.

He said the victory was not for him alone but the whole of Kwaebibirem district and emphasized his commitment to the development of the district.

The DCE appealed to all to put the past behind them so that together, they could work harder to move the district forward. Mr Yiadom-Boakye said the work he and the assemblymembers had done during the past four years had enhanced the image of the district and promised that they were going to perform even better in their next term. He said in the cause of his duty he might have offended some few individuals who, he felt, were dragging the district backwards in its effort to achieve development goals and pleaded for forgiveness. Before the voting, the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Yaw Barimah, asked the assembly members to sink their differences and see first to the development, progress and prosperity of the district. He said the assembly members were being asked to give assessment of their own stewardship since "if Mr Yiadom Boakye excelled in his performance, it was through your support and co-operation as an able colleague."

Mr Fred Asante, a Member of the Council of State, who witnessed the election said he felt disappointed at the result, which he said, showed there was internal political problems which needed to be solved. He hoped that from now on, members would work together as a team to advance the cause of the district and the nation.
