Association calls on Mahama to maintain Veep

Members of the Cape Coast Youth Development Association, a non-Partisan organisation, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to either maintain the Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur as his running mate in the 2016 general election or choose another native of the Region in the person of Dr Ekow Spio-Grabrah.

At a press conference in Cape Coast last Tuesday, the group condemned the recent issuing of press statements by some persons who attacked the Vice President and described him as “incompetent.”

Mr Kingsley Boafo, Secretary of the Association, said “the group pledge it’s support to Mr. Amissah Arthur as the running mate in next year’s general election, but if the President thinks otherwise, then he should choose Dr Spio-Garbrah, who is a proud native of Cape Coast and one of the finest and illustrious sons.”

The group said there were other persons from the Region who could partner President Mahama “but Dr Spio-Garbrah stands tall among them and his contributions to the development of the Region is unmatched.”

“We believe Dr Spio-Garbrah’s charisma coupled with yours would give the National Democratic Congress (NDC) a resounding victory and the people of the Central Region will forever be grateful to you”

Mr Boafo said the group was championing the development of Cape Coast, and urged leadership of the NDC and President Mahama "to retain a Cape Coast citizen as his vice rather than anyone just from the Central Region or from another region."

“Therefore a Mahama/Amissah-Arthur or Mahama/Spio-Garbrah ticket will help maximize the votes and make Central Region a stronghold of NDC”.

He, however, called on the members of the Association to stay calm and eschew any violent or unruly behaviour.
