Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, showed incredible zeal on Sunday, September 29, 2024, when he stayed on and delivered his speech despite a heavy downpour at a campaign event in Wassa Amenfi.
Dr. Bawumia was in the Amenfi Central Constituency of the Western Region. Having already had some engagements in the morning in Amenfi East Constituency and earlier within the Manso Amenfi township (Amenfi Central), the rains came down as Dr. Bawumia delivered his address at a community engagement.
Many had expected Dr. Bawumia to pause his address when the rains intensified, as he was exposed to the rain beyond the canopy, but he didn't.
With his audience, including traditional rulers, covered by the canopy, Dr. Bawumia remarkably continued his speech in the rain, with several supporters also in the rain cheering him on.
As he continued delivering his address in the rain, Dr. Bawumia, wearing a white smock, was visibly drenched.
The NPP started his day in the Amenfi West Constituency at the Asankragua Methodist Church, where he had a meet-and-greet session with worshippers.
After that, he went to the Sunday Market at Asankragua and then to Asankragua Zongo, where he attended the adua (funeral) of the Deputy Chief Imam.
From there, he moved to the Amenfi Central Constituency, where both residents and he defied the rain.
Before that, he visited the Methodist Church, Manso Amenfi, and interacted with worshippers before visiting the Church of Pentecost, Manso Amenfi.
He also had a stakeholder meeting at Manso Amenfi Zongo and a community connection at Manso Amenfi Community Centre.
He also visited Wassa Akropong in the Amenfi East Constituency, where he had similar engagements.
