A Founding Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has raised concerns about Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's decision-making skills.
According to him, despite Dr. Bawumia’s commendable statesmanship and political experience, he lacks the ability to make major decisions on his own.
In an interview with TV3 on December 14, 2024, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe stated, “Bawumia is a disciplined and respectful gentleman, but his major weakness is that he cannot make decisions.”
Reflecting on his early mentorship of Dr. Bawumia, he shared, “When Akufo-Addo chose Bawumia as his running mate, he entrusted him to me and the late former Vice President Aliu Mahama. We worked closely with him, and while he was a nice gentleman, he struggled to make decisions.”
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe stressed that Bawumia's decision-making challenges became evident during the 2024 Election, where he seemed to be controlled by party structures and external influences.
“Leadership requires decisiveness, and unfortunately, he didn’t demonstrate that ability,” he said.
However, Dr. Bawumia’s concession after the election has been widely praised, both locally and internationally, as a mark of political maturity and good leadership.
Commenting on the NPP’s performance during the elections, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe blamed the NPP’s defeat at the polls to internal disputes and controversial primary processes.
He called for reforms and urged the party to reconnect with the grassroots and restructure itself.
“The NPP needs to understand that the recent election results were a people’s revolution, a clear rejection of the status quo. If we don’t rebuild now, we risk losing our relevance,” he cautioned.
He added that the decision of the Ghanaian electorates was due to the mistreatment of the citizens by the political class.
“This election showed that Ghanaians are tired of being taken for granted. The political class must wake up,” he warned.
