Goodluck Jonathan, a former President of Nigeria and the leader of the West African Elders Forum and the ECOWAS Mission to Ghana for the 2024 Elections, has emphasised the importance of peace and stability to the development of Ghana.
Speaking during a meeting with the National Election Security Taskforce on Thursday, December 5, Goodluck Jonathan urged Ghanaian politicians to preach peace ahead of the polls.
He stated that there can be only one outcome from the polls and it is important that politicians who fall on the losing side accept the results of the polls.
He also appealed to the Ghanaian authorities to ensure that the overall electoral process is transparent and credible.
“We want elections that will be peaceful, transparent, and credible, and then all the stakeholders will be happy. Just like the IGP said, we will plead with our own colleagues who are politicians to be peaceful. Only one person wins in an election, and so whenever you are going for an election, you should be ready to either win or lose,” he said.
Ghanaians will go to the polls on Saturday, December 7, 2024, to elect the 6th President of the Fourth Republic.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party and John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress are the frontrunners for the polls.
