Cynthia Mamle Morrison the Member of Parliament for Agona West has raised concerns over alleged intimidation by members of her party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), following her decision to contest as an independent candidate.
This accusation follows a recent shooting incident at one of her campaign rallies, which resulted in injuries to four people.
Among the injured were Rasheed Haruna, who serves as the Nasara Coordinator for Agona West, and Chris Arthur's Campaign Chairman, both of whom sustained injuries from gunfire.
Haruna was reportedly shot in the ribs during the incident, adding to the tension surrounding Morrison's independent run.
The NPP parliamentary candidate for Agona West, Chris Arthur, has countered with allegations against Morrison, suggesting her potential involvement in the attack.
However, Morrison dismissed these claims in an interview on Citi FM on October 28, 2024, labelling the accusations as baseless.
"This kind of incident has never happened here before, and I believe they are trying to intimidate me because I chose to stand independently. But it will not deter me... they think I'm here to spoil their votes, but they have no idea I'm here to win," Morrison asserted.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service released a statement on October 28, 2024, pledging a comprehensive investigation into the shooting incident.
The police assured the public of its dedication to maintaining security and bringing the assailants to justice as the election period intensifies.
