Bernard Mornah accuses EC of being lazy

The flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has expressed his strong dislike for the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile on September 28, 2024, Bernard Mornah described the Jean Mensa-led EC as very lazy, raising concerns about the credibility of the electoral body.

He explained that the EC disqualified candidates for trivial mistakes, yet the same EC went on to commit similar errors in the nomination forms, questioning the basis on which the EC disqualified 11 individuals from the presidential race.

"This is a very lazy Electoral Commission. The EC made mistakes in its own nomination forms talking about candidate's personal records which speak about names, voter ID numbers and polling stations, and it says six instead of sex. Is the Electoral Commission disqualified from making errors? Are they not intending to write sex but ended up writing six? Who disqualifies somebody on the basis of trivialities and tangential issues," he is quoted as saying by myjoyonline.com.

He further argued that the EC should have taken greater responsibility to ensure that all prospective candidates were informed about the criteria and regulations for nominations.

Bernard Mornah’s scathing attack against the EC comes after his disqualification from the presidential race, along with 10 other candidates.

Mr Mornah has already sued the Commission over the disqualification and he's confident that he will remain victorious and be made to appear on the ballot.

The Progressive People's Party (PPP) has also sued the Commission over its disqualification from the race.
