Deputy General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Obiri Boahene says the NPP party should be blamed for the confusion festering in the Klottey Korle constituency over the excessive contention on the parliamentary primaries.
“I know that 96% of the problems in that constituency were caused by the party; the arbitrary decision in the change of date by the General Secretary brought about these controversies.
“On my own initiative I have conducted a search and I know that if we should go for a re-run 10 times Nii Noi will win- that is a fact because he has a large support base in that constituency, but the way we treated Addison and Nii Adjei Tawiah is not fair. They’re right to draw a dispute in that decision by the party,” Obiri Boahene told Accra-based Okay FM.
He debunked claims that the Steering committee’s decision for a re-run was slanted to favour Addison.
“It is important to note that the committee only endorsed a ruling by the court; this is not an arbitrary decision by the party as being speculated by Nii Noi’s supporters”.
He’s however advised Nii Noi Nortey who was stripped of his victory in the Klottey Korle constituency to accept the decision for a re-run to help retire the troubles in the constituency.
Nii Noi has vowed not to take part in what he described as a “sham re-run”
According to him, he’s disappointed that the NPP is compelling delegates to pay for the inconsistent decisions of the party.
The party’s Steering Committee has ordered a re-run of the Korle Klottey parliamentary primaries after the long legal fights over the polls.
The party’s decision comes after it agreed with the parties to withdraw the case from court.
