Akropong Akuapem, Feb. 12, GNA - Mr William Ofori Boafo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP), for Akropong, at the weekend, declared his intention to seek for re-election in 2012. He said that would enable him to complete all the developmental project= s he had initiated within the constituency.
Mr Boafo said based on that, he would contest the party's primary scheduled for April 30, 2011.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), at Akropong Akuapem, Mr Boafo said he had initiated a number of development projects, ranging from education, health, water, roads and electrification in his constituency, to improve the quality of life of the people.
He said since he became an MP in 2004, he had extended electricity to a number of communities, constructed school buildings for some selected schools and assisted a number of communities to have health posts and clinics. Mr Boafo said he had also given scholarships to a number of brilliant but needy students within the constituency and had also paid the National Health Insurance levy for some poor people.
Mr Boafo said since assuming office as the MP for the area, he had made the party more popular and that he would continue to work hard when given the nod to lead the party in the constituency in 2012. The MP commended the constituency executive for their hard work and dedication, which had made the party very strong in the area. Mr Boafo disclosed that three other people had declared their intention= s to contest the primary in April and therefore appealed to them to ensure that they all conduct their campaigns devoid of insults and attacks. He said what the party needed between now and 2012 and beyond was unity to ensure that they win power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Akropong had remained one of the pillars of the NPP, occupying the Parliamentary seat since 1996.
