Bye-election for Tamale Central fixed for April 4

Accra, March 8, GNA - The Electoral Commission announced on Wednesday that bye-election for Tamale Central Constituency following the resignation of Professor Wayo Seni from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will take place on Tuesday, April 4, 2006.

A statement signed by Mr K. Sarfo-Kantanka, Deputy Chairman (Operations) said the vote would take place between 0700 and 1700 hours. Nomination of candidates shall take place at the office of the Returning Officer on Thursday, March 16 and Friday, March 17 between 0900 and 1200 hours and 1400 and 1700 hours.

The statement said nomination forms could be obtained from the Returning Officer at the Metropolitan Office of the Electoral Commission at Tamale.

Every nomination must be proposed and seconded by two registered voters respectively and supported by 18 other registered voters from the constituency and with the consent of the prospective candidate. Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning officer with the required deposit of 500,000 cedis in bank draft and two clear and recent post-card photograph (bust) in colour with red background.
