CPP suspensions: Disciplinary committee's work ‘poor’ – Kadir

The Communication Director of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Abdul Rauf Kadir, has said that the disciplinary committee set up by the Central Committee of the party did a “poor” and “careless” job in deciding to exonerate suspended General Secretary Nii Armah Akomfrah and Youth Organiser Ernesto Yeboah.

According to him, the two will remain suspended until the disciplinary committee acts on the directive of the Central Committee to review their earlier recommendation for reinstatement.

“The fact that they continue to hold themselves as executives is also an act of indiscipline and the party will deal with it appropriately,” he told Class News on August 1.

He explained: “The report presented by the disciplinary committee had some fundamental flaws in it, so they should go back and do their work. Their report was rejected because it was done outside the charge sheet.”

Mr Yeboah and Mr Akomfrah acted on the earlier report by the disciplinary committee and proceeded to the party’s headquarters on Monday August 1 to resume work.

However, things got chaotic after they were denied entry to the offices. It took the intervention of police officers to control the chaos at the premises as supporters of the two executives clashed with security men. According to Mr Yeboah, the police had to call the officers of the party to order so as to respect the report issued by the committee.

“Initially when we came [to the premises], the party sought to prevent us [from entering the offices] under the instruction of the chairman and leader of our party. The District Command at the Nima Police Station prevented them from carrying out that illegality and pointed out to them clearly that if the disciplinary committee of the party has cleared us of any wrongdoing, then they ought to respect that structure of authority,” he explained.

The two officers were suspended following what the party described as a breach of its disciplinary code after the two national officers publicly contradicted their flagbearer’s position on President John Mahama’s Ford gift saga.
