CPP to make strong showing in 2012 - Danso

Kumasi Nov 10, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Mr Samuel Kwabena Danso, on Wednesday predicted a strong showing by the party in Election 2012.

He said it would be suicidal for their political opponents to underestimate either their strength or determination to capture power. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi on Wednesday, Mr Danso said the CPP was doing everything to maintain a rock solid front to become more attractive to voters.

He said in the Ashanti Region "we are firmly on the ground and working tirelessly to broaden the party's support base." He said given its history and record of socio-economic achievements under late President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, there should not be any doubt that it was only a CPP government that could assure Ghanaians of better lives.

Mr Danso counseled against internal wrangling and asked that all true "Nkrumaists" should put the party ahead of individual and parochial political agenda. "We need to remain loyal to the party's ideology and to help especially the youth to understand what the CPP stands for to win them over."

He spoke against the growing level of intolerance and bad language in the political discourse and said this must end to grow the country's multi-party democracy.

He said there was the need for the leadership of political parties and their followers to show civility and denounce all forms of unacceptable conduct likely to fuel tension and division. "Democracy is all about unity of purpose, peace and harmony to bring development and economic opportunities to the people." The CPP Regional Chairman urged the Mills Administration to tackle the soaring unemployment among the youth. He suggested the resuscitation of the Jute Factory, and said given the importance of jute to the nation's cocoa industry, it was time the government invested in its production locally. 10 Nov 10
