On Sunday, September 8, 2024, the vibrant town of Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Constituency came alive as Charles Owusu Juanah, a distinguished international lawyer and relentless advocate for the welfare of Ghanaians, brought his nationwide tour to the heart of the Eastern Region.

Under the theme "Retooling and Energizing the Grassroots to Break the Eight with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia," Lawyer Juanah, along with his dedicated team, delivered a powerful message that resonated deeply with the audience."

The event, held at the esteemed Mount Mary College of Education auditorium, drew an impressive crowd comprising TESCON members, students from Mount Mary College of Education and the University of Environment and Sustainable Development, Electoral Area Coordinators, Friends of Bawumia-08 Executives and members, and NPP Constituency Executives among others.

The program was further elevated by the presence of key NPP figures, including Mr. Boakye Agyarko, Dr. Desmond A. Nartey, Mr. Eric Tetteh, MCE for Yilo, Dr. Richard Twum Barimah who is the NPP parliamentary candidate for Yilo Krobo, and the Constituency Executive Committee led by Alhaji Abubaka Teye Constituency Chairman and Mr. Davis Kwashie Constituency Secretary.

In his address, Lawyer Juanah captivated the audience with his signature emphasis on human resource development, a cornerstone of his advocacy for a prosperous Ghana.

He articulated the indispensable role of government investment in human capital, asserting, “Any government that doesn’t invest in the human resource capacity of its citizens isn’t a government for the people, and such leadership should
not be entertained.”

He lauded the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its unwavering commitment to this cause, tracing the party’s efforts back to the era of President John Agyekum Kufuor and continuing through the current administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

From the introduction of Free Maternal Care and the like through to Free SHS to the expansion of technical and vocational education, Lawyer Juanah highlighted the NPP’s numerous initiatives aimed at empowering Ghanaians.

He didn’t shy away from drawing stark contrasts with the opposition, offering a pointed critique of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“The AFRC, which transformed into the PNDC under Jerry Rawlings, later became the NDC we see today. They have consistently placed their interests above those of the ordinary Ghanaian, from the era of coups to today’s leadership. The NDC has shown, time and again, that they are more interested in creating and sharing wealth among themselves rather than bettering the lives of the people,” he said.

Lawyer Juanah reminded the gathering of the economic crisis Ghana faced under the NDC’s rule, particularly during the Jerry Rawlings and Mahama eras.

He cited the privatization of state-owned enterprises by the Rawlings-led government, which he claimed marked the beginning of the country’s economic downfall.

“They sold our state properties to themselves, their families, and friends, leaving the country in a state of despair. Unemployment soared, and it took the leadership of the NPP under President Kufuor to steer us through HIPC and back to stability,” he said.

He added that when the NPP left office in 2008, Ghana was on a path of economic growth and prosperity.

Reflecting on the recent past, Lawyer Juanah detailed how the NPP, under President Nana Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, once again took over a broken economy from the NDC in 2016 and turned it around.

“Before the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine war, Ghana was among the
fastest-growing economies in the world. This was not by accident but through strategic investments in human capital and sound economic management,” he stated.

He listed significant initiatives like the Free SHS, Planting for Food and Jobs, and the One District One Factory policy as key drivers of this growth.

As the NDC attempts to regain power, Charles Juanah warned the audience against falling for their tactics of misinformation and deceit.

He underscored the critical role of the Free SHS and the digitalization agenda spearheaded by Dr. Bawumia in raising the awareness of Ghanaians, making them
less susceptible to such tactics.

“It is our duty to ensure that Dr. Bawumia and the NPP continue with the good work. The good Lord has ordained Dr. Bawumia to lead this country to greater heights,” he added.

Lawyer Juanah rallied the TESCON members, NPP leaders, and supporters present to remain steadfast in their support for the party.

He urged them to campaign vigorously in their communities for both Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Richard Twum Barimah, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Yilo Krobo, declaring that history would be made as Dr. Bawumia breaks the eight and Dr. Twum Barimah secures a historic victory for the NPP in the constituency.

The energy in the auditorium was palpable, as the gathering, now retooled and re-energized by Lawyer Juanah’s stirring address, pledged to embark on an aggressive, grassroots-driven campaign.

With a sense of renewed purpose, they vowed to take the message of the NPP from house to house, market to market, church to church, and even farm to farm determined to secure a resounding victory in the December elections.
