Chief holds forum for political parties

Krobo (B/A), Oct. 29, GNA - Oyeadieyie Asa Ackompanin, Krobohene and Kyidomhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, has called on leaders of political parties to exercise restraint and maintain the existing peace and stability in the area.

He made the call when speaking to party executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), religious leaders and some chiefs on Wednesday.

He asked political parties to educate their supporters on the need to co-exist peacefully since politics should not be used to sow seed of discord in the society.

The Chief urged them to also ensure that their supporters tolerated views of their opponents to enhance the development.

Oyeadieyie Ackompanin appealed to political parties to discuss national issues and to tell people the solution they had for the country's socio-economic problems instead of hammering on the negative side of others in their campaign programmes.

''The nation needs unity, peace and political stability for the achievement of her development and this could only be achieved through civilized way of campaigning.''

He said the two parliamentary candidates in the area - Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi (NPP) and Mr Alex Kyeremeh (NDC)- were both citizens of Krobo and urged supporters of each of the parties not to do anything that would soil the hard-won reputation of the two personalities and the image of Krobo and its environs.

Mr Pierre Kwabena Ankomah, Techiman Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), commended Oyeadieyie Ackompanin for collaborating with the NCCE in its public educational programmes to ensure political tolerance in the area.

Mr Samuel Yeboah, NDC Chairman and Mr Asamoah Banaba, Patron of NPP, both in the area, commended Oyeadieyie Ackompanin for organizing the forum and pledged to educate their supporters to conduct their campaigns in a very mature manner to sustain the peace and progress in the area.
