The Chiefs and Community Heads of the Mankpan Traditional area in the Yapei–Kusawgu Constituency of the Northern region have declared their support to the New Patriotic Party (NPP). According to the chiefs they need peace and believe they will be more secured under the leadership of the NPP than what they are experiencing under the watch of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area. The spokesperson of the Chiefs and Soriwura Salifu Suale Gbankulso, who led the group to throw their weight behind the NPP at a mini rally said over the past two decade the people of the area have continuously voted NDC but, have not seen any significant development in area to warrant their votes this time around. He mentioned the bad road network in the Mankpan traditional area, poor healthcare services and other infrastructure facilities including the Kpabelpe Junior High School which he said are in a very deplorable state. He said they cannot continue to vote for a party which does not have the people at heart,"so how can we be voting for a party when we are in trouble they cannot come to rescue us". The Northern Regional Chairman of the Opposition NPP, Daniel Bugri Naabu commended the chiefs and the people of the area for the bold decision and urged them to translate the move into reality on December 7. He wondered whether Ghanaians will continue to vote for a party that inflicts unbearable hardship on the citizenry. He added "you vote for a party to come into power to reduce your suffering but not to worsen the situation". The outspoken Northern regional chairman also accused the NDC government of mismanaging the economy and running down the numerous pro-poor social intervention programs introduced under the NPP government. He outlined some of them as the school feeding program, NHIS, NYEP and the free maternal care. He lamented over the huge corruption scandals under the NDC citing the SADA which was meant to alleviate poverty and abridged the development gap between the north and the south by the NDC government. He therefore urged the people of the area to vote the NPP for their own future since the NDC has no good intention for Ghanaians. " your future is in danger if you voted the NDC "he told the youth.
