The Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Collins Dauda, has etched his name in the history books of the country’s political landscape, becoming the only Member of Parliament to serve eight terms in Parliament.

Born on February 13, 1957, in Mehame in the Ahafo Region, the same year Ghana attained independence, Collins Dauda first entered Parliament in 1992 after winning the parliamentary election for the Asutifi South constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.

He contested the seat again in the 1996 elections and was re-elected, beginning his second term in office as a parliamentarian.

However, Dauda lost the 2000 parliamentary election to his opponent. His defeat was attributed to an allegation that he had used black magic to kill his political rival, Prof. Gyan-Amoah, just a day before the general elections.

Unperturbed by his defeat, the politician contested again in the 2004 elections and won, becoming a member of the 4th Parliament.

He has since served as the Asutifi Member of Parliament from the 4th to the 7th Parliament.

He is now awaiting to be sworn into the 9th Parliament, where he will become the longest-serving lawmaker in the country.

With this achievement, Dauda surpasses Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of the outgoing 8th Parliament, and Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the outgoing Member of Parliament for Suame, both of whom hold the record for serving 7 terms.
