Accra, Nov. 1, GNA - The campaign for the re-election of Mr Lord Commey as the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was launched in Accra on Tuesday with the assurance that he was the best placed candidate for that position.
The launch, preceded by almost two hours of music and dancing by the youth, was witnessed by high ranking members of the Party including Mr Harona Esseku, Party Chairman, Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City and Mr Dan Botwe, Minister of Information.
Mr Dan Botwe in a solidarity speech noted that nobody would be bold enough to file against Lord Commey for the position of National Organizer considering his commitment to the development of the Party. He said in spite of all the frustrations Lord Commey went through, he was willing to serve the Party. He added that the launch was just to formally recognise the procedures as Mr Commey was going to be elected unopposed.
Mr Botwe said the future of the NPP depended on how the Party recognised the contributions made by members of the Party especially Mr Commey, who had been one of its main pillars. "Since 2001, Lord Commey, elected as the National Organiser, has worked like a bull and his loyalty, sacrifice and commitment to the development of the NPP cannot be over emphasised." He said the success of the NPP in the 2000 Elections was partly due to the capacity building workshops organised by the candidate in all the 10 regions adding that through his research work he used the loopholes in the NDC to the NPP's advantage.
Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey said the NPP needed professionals like Lord Commey to keep the Party in power.
