Broadcast Journalist, Afia Pokuaa, popularly known as the Vim Lady has said that 2020 election results will shock the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) that is being complacent and power-drunk.
According to her, the governing party is so much obsessed with power and does not attach any sense of urgency to their internal elections; a move that will spell doom for the party.
“Power has gotten into people's heads and they think that it’s just a walkover for the NPP. So they think that let’s do Primaries in April and do this and do that and we can win. The same thing happened to the NDC around 2000 and 2004. Ashaiman and some very strongholds of the NDC was lost to the NPP because some Parliamentary candidates were selected against the wish of the people on the grounds”. She observed.
She blames the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, John Boadu because he and the other executives have relaxed and do not get the sense that it is urgent.
Vim Lady noted that in 2020 there will be high voter apathy and the various regions that voted massively for the NPP in 2016 will not come through so it is high time the political party reminds itself of the fact that elections are in December.
“Are the one million votes still there? There’s going to be some form of voter apathy and that is what the afrobarometer report predicts. A lot of people are undecided, a lot of people are disgruntled. So Kumasi will not come for you, Eastern region will not come for you, Bono will not come for you.” She stressed.
