Weija, Dec 8, GNA - Controversy marred what was generally described as a successful elections in the newly created Weija Constituency when Mr John Caesar Ahienkpor, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Candidate contesting the Parliamentary Elections in the area objected to the final declaration of the results.
He alleged that more than 10 of the ballot boxes had been tampered with on the way to the Constituency Centre for collating of the results. This held up proceedings for over three hours as he claimed the papers in the ballot boxes outnumbered the registered voters in the area.
The aspiring MP argued that until the abnormalities were rectified, he would not accept the results.
This resulted in a heated argument between him and his main contender, the New Patriotic Party's Sherley Ayorkor Botchway, which resulted to the reinforcement of security at the Constituency Centre from the Odorkor Police Station led by DSP Helena Cobbina.
After a series of consultation with the two parties, Mr Dimson Danquah, the Returning Officer had no option but to agree that the ballot boxes be sent to the Amasaman District Office under Police supervision and with representatives from the two parties. Mr Danquah announced that the results would be declared at 0730 hours on Wednesday. 08 Dec. 04
