Cuba Solidarity Campaign mourns with Ghana

The Cuba Solidarity Campaign (CSC) has expressed its deepest condolence to the bereaved widow, family, the Government and people of Ghana on the death of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

A statement issued by the group on Monday, indicated that the late President Mills was a great friend, who shared their friendship and solidarity with the Government and people of Cuba in their bold confrontation, with the futile attempt to impose a social and political system on them from the courtyard of imperialism.

“We note in particular, a letter Professor Mills dispatched to his friend, President Barack Obama of the United States of America, urging him to set the Cuban Five free on the basis of legality and loyalty,” it said.

The statement continued that under the leadership of his Government, the late Professor Mills also opposed the illegal imposition of a 50-year-old blockade on Cuba.

It said Ghana joined many nations around the world, such as the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the African Union (AU) and the United Nations, to support Cuba’s efforts at building a prosperous nation on the basis of self-reliance and the equality of all citizens.

“Last year, while on a visit to Equatorial Guinea, President Mills released his aircraft to fly two very ill Cuban doctors to Havana in spite of the risks to his security and breach of protocol,” it said.

The statement indicated that his generosity and humility saved the lives of these doctors, who were rendering invaluable service to the people of Ghana.**
