Mr Francis Korankye-Sakyi, the District Chief Executive for Hemang Lower Denkyira, has said the Assembly did not have the requisite members hence the delay in the disbursement of the Disability Fund last year.
He said it is untrue the allegations made by Mr Agyanim Boateng, the President of the Blind Association, that there has been a malfeasance in the disbursement of the Fund.
Mr Korankye-Sakyi said though the money was meant for the welfare of the disabled, he had to follow due process in its disbursement to ensure transparency.
Mr Boateng is reported to have alleged on a locally based radio station that the Assembly has refused to disburse the Disability Fund despite several attempts to have it disbursed.
Mr Korankye-Sakyi, who was reacting to the allegations, said there are guidelines for the disbursement of the Fund, saying it had to go through the Social Services Committee and the Disability Fund Committee before it was eventually given out.
He said the Assembly did not have assembly members for the whole of last year, and for that matter, did not have the Social Services Committee and the Disability Fund Committees to ensure the disbursement of the money, hence the delay.
He said the Assembly has disbursed monies to the disabled four times within the last four years with the last one being disbursed last December of which others received as much as GHC 600.
Korankye-Sakyi assured the disabled in the District that their money was safe and would be used judiciously to cater for their welfare.
