Damning verdict …Kufuor, Awuni Predict Akufo-Addo Loss

In what is considered the verdict of the elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the party’s chances in the 2016 elections, former President Kufuor has made it clear that Nana Akufo Addo cannot win this year’s election.
According to the former leader president, Nana Addo would have to reverse the decisions he had imposed on the party in the matter of embattled chairman and general secretary of the party to have any chances of winning the elections.

However, the flagbearer of the biggest opposition party is not ready to heed the advice of the elders of the party, leaving him with the only option of losing for the third time in the history of the nation.

Mr. Kufuor, who has tried severally to change his intolerant posture towards perceived enemies in the party, foresees to solution in sight to the current tension and division in the party, occasioned by Nana Addo’s desperation to elimination those aligned to Mr. Kufuor.

He has predicted that with the current state of affairs, no amount of campaigning or effort can save the party from another electoral defeat since heaven helps those who help themselves.

His prediction has received accent from many other members of the party who fear the party would lose the upcoming elections with the current state of affairs.

Mr. Andrew Awuni, former presidential secretary to Mr. Kufuor, is afraid the party would not be trusted enough to handle the affairs of the nation in its current state of affairs.

Mr. Awuni is of the strong view that Nana Addo has swept away the chances of the party to the extent that its members would be better off thinking of 2020 than this year’s elections.

“Nana Addo has made things rather difficult for himself and the party to win an election,” he declared regretfully.

The unfortunate situation the party finds itself in is that though some think Nana Addo regrets the current state of affairs, his refusal to make ‘U’ turn proves otherwise. “I’m sure he[Akufo-Addo] regrets it,” Mr. Awuni thinks.

However, Nana Addo has already parried attempts by elders of the party and no less a personality than the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who, according to Mr. Paul Afoko, embattled party chairman, was snubbed by the intolerant flagbearer.

The disrespect for the Asantehene was seen as the last straw that broke the camel’s back.

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamaklo, a founding member of the party, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey, another leading member and others, have all tasted of Nana Addo’s bullish attitude for attempting to call him to order.
The culture of forced silence in the party is what the party elders fear would result in an imminent loss especially in the face of the tremendous developmental projects President Mahama is undertaking in the country.
