The first day of the Biometric Voter Registration exercise in the Hohoe-North and South Constituencies was largely successful but a few centres experienced some initial technical hitches that delayed the start of the process.
Mr Kwabena Karikari, Hohoe Municipal Director of Electoral Commission, told the GNA on Sunday that the success could be rated above 85 per cent.
He said the hand-head scanner posed a challenge as the forms could not be scanned but it did not affect the general conduct of the exercise as there were avenues for correcting the problem.
The EC Official said the various centres recorded 120 as the highest and 54 as the lowest registrants, respectively, for the first day with the E.P. Primary/JHS Centre and Teresco Centre at Gbi-Bla among the most patronised areas.
Mr Karikari expressed optimism that with the resolution of most of the initial difficulties and registration officials shirking the preliminary nervousness on duty, higher figures would be recorded subsequently.
In another area, Mr Victor Tse-Dzah, Registration Officer at the Fodome-Tormegbe centre, said about 33 people went through the exercise successfully.
He blamed the low figure on the late start of the exercise due to distribution difficulties.
Meanwhile, queues are emerging for day two of the exercise with the representatives of the two main political parties at the centres.**
