Debate with Ghanaians on your weak economy, not Mahama – Fmr Minister to Bawumia

Former Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works, and Housing under the erstwhile Mills administration, Hon. Samuel Yaw Adusei, has replied to NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his recent challenge to engage his counterpart John Dramani Mahama in a presidential debate.

Samuel Yaw Adusei, a former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, in an interview on the Ghana Kasa morning show on Kasapa FM/Agoo TV on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, said anytime a ruling government calls for a debate, it presupposes they are on the losing path and are trying to redeem their lost image.

“Anytime a party calls for a debate, it presupposes that party is on the verge of losing elections, and it’s the same way Dr. Bawumia is calling for a debate. When we knew we would lose the 2016 elections, we also called for a presidential debate in 2016, but the NPP did not honor it.”

The former deputy minister asked Dr. Bawumia to rather go to Ghanaians and the electorate to debate with them on the current economic crisis underpinning the country’s progress.

“Mahama should come for a debate. Debate to say what? Go and debate with the electorate who you want to vote for you because the economy is in crisis.”

This is in the backdrop of the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, daring the former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to a live presidential debate to explain their respective visions and policies to the people of Ghana.

He maintained that Mahama would not stoop so low to the challenge; however, he is focused on selling his message to voters ahead of the 2024 polls.
