The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has said the date for the general elections in Ghana this year remains December 7.
Rumours making the rounds have it that the presidential and parliamentary elections will take place on November 7 for the first time this year.
However, the electoral management body said although it has plans to bring forward the date to November nothing concrete has gone into that consideration yet.
“Although the EC is in favour of the change in date, we don’t intend to do so this year,” Mrs Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the EC told state-owned Daily Graphic.
Political watchers have argued that changing the polling date to November 7 will help with transition periods, especially when there is a change in government.
The EC said it has to formally write to the Attorney General’s department to justify why there is a need for a new election date.
