Defeated Tema East NDC Parliamentary Candidate to go independent

Tema, July 23, GNA- Mr Albert Antwi-Nuamah, who lost the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in the Tema East Constituency, is to contest as an independent candidate.

About 60 branches of the party in the Constituency have resolved to support Mr Antwi-Nuamah.

This was contained in a press release signed by Mr Stephen Aniadjei, NDC Secretary in the Constituency on Friday.

On Saturday, July 3, the Tema East Constituency of the NDC held its primaries at which Mrs Emelia Kai Adjei, an Educationist, defeated Mr Antwi-Nuamah by 95 votes to 85.

Mr Antwi-Nuamah immediately protested against the results and accused the Executives of being bias.

The release said "the decision to go independent was taken by the Committee of Branch Chairmen at an emergency meeting after the National Executive Committee (NEC) failed to address the electoral malpractice and irregularities contained in three petitions sent to them.

The release condemned the decision of the NEC to arbitrarily endorse Mrs Adjei as the Party's Candidate when issues raised, had not been addressed and described it as a travesty of justice.
