The executives of the Movement for Change in the Cape Coast South constituency of the Central Region have invoked curses on impersonators who falsely claimed to be executives of the Movement and led a supposed defection to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, John Sam, the Cape Coast South Secretary, denied reports that some members of the Movement had joined the NPP due to feeling neglected.

He emphasized that no member of the Movement is willing to join either the NPP or the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as they believe neither party has good policies for Ghanaians.

John Sam accused the NPP of resorting to deception with the fabricated defection because the party fears losing the upcoming December 7 general elections.

Angered by the false claim, the leadership of the Movement, armed with a bottle of schnapps and eggs, called upon the powerful gods of the land to punish the impersonators.

“Our ancestors, we, the leaders of the Movement for Change in Cape Coast South, have come before you. Some unknown individuals who falsely claim to be members of the Movement for Change have accepted a bribe of GH₵5,000 from the NPP to organize a press conference and announce their defection. Wherever these people stand and claim they are members of the Movement, our gods and ancestors, deal with them ruthlessly.

"Anyone who wishes ill upon the Movement for Change and resorts to evil plans, we beseech you, powerful gods, to unleash your wrath upon them. For every lie told about the Movement for Change here in Cape Coast South, as I strike these eggs to the ground, may you deal with the offenders, and may they know no peace. Whoever in Ghana falsely claims membership in the Movement while spreading lies should not be spared either,” John Sam prayed.

On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, some alleged supporters of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s Movement for Change in the Central Region announced their defection to the ruling NPP ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Over one hundred supporters, at a press conference in Cape Coast, expressed their intention to leave the Movement for Change, citing the NPP’s numerous developmental projects across the country as their reason.

The group, which had previously campaigned for Alan Kyerematen during the presidential primaries, believes that the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has a stronger chance of winning the 2024 elections. They, therefore, decided to work for the party to help secure victory.

The leader of the group, Francis Edzie, who now serves as the polling station secretary for the NPP in the Twi-Ndzi-Twi Jejem Electoral Area in Cape Coast South, said his colleagues responded to calls from Bawumia's national campaign team and are confident that their decision serves the NPP's best interests.
