The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has expressed confidence in the New Patriotic Party's chances of securing victory in the lawsuit concerning the disputed parliamentary seats.

Addressing the media after an adjournment by an Accra High Court on December 31, 2024, Afenyo-Markin reassured supporters, expressing hope that the due process would unfold as expected and that the party would retain the seats in the four disputed constituencies.

The lawmaker, who is the Member of Parliament for Effutu, maintained that the Electoral Commission did not err in redeclaring some seats for the NPP, despite initially declaring them for the NDC.

“We have every patience for the law. A court process may be slow but with surety, you will get the results when you know you are on firm grounds. The Electoral Commission itself has stated with emphasis that there is no such thing as a declaration of results in Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Ablekuma North, and Dome Kwabenya.

"They have already administratively declared those results as illegal and the EC is doing its work so this argument that they have declared results is neither here nor there,” he said.

He added, “However, we have a firm belief that in the end, we will be victorious. There is no rush because we are following due process. You’ll realize that initially, they were on a path of violence. At least we have managed to bring them to the courtroom, bring them civility, and get them to abide by the rule of law so that is our joy. This is NPP and we believe in the rule of law. We stand for the right things to be done so we are not worried at all.”

An Accra High Court adjourned its ruling on the NDC's preliminary objection against the NPP’s mandamus application concerning four disputed constituencies; Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South.

The ruling, originally scheduled for Tuesday, December 31, 2024, will now be delivered on January 1, 2025.
