District level elections end

Accra, Sept. 26, GNA -- Voting ended officially in district assembly and unit committee elections on Tuesday with reports throughout the country speaking of a low turn-out.

Voting took place in some 20,000 pooling stations throughout the country except in Tamale and Yendi and ended at 1700 hours. Voting was peaceful and so far there were no reports of violence. Counting of ballot papers has started and results would be known at the polling stations.

According to the Electoral Commission, any voter in the queue at the polling stations at the close of polling at 1700 hours would be allowed to vote.

Presiding Officers may extend the voting period if polling did not start at 0700 hours.
