The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended its Akuapem North Constituency Communication Officer, Bright Boateng, from the party for three months.

Bright Boateng openly campaigned for an independent candidate against the party’s parliamentary candidate, Appiah Kubi.

The party said Mr Boateng was preaching what was known in local parlance as 'skirt and blouse', which the party was against.

Speaking to Class News, Deputy Regional Secretary of the NDC Francis Annoh-Dompreh said Mr Boateng’s behaviour was against the party’s constitution.

“He went on radio campaigning for an independent candidate against the party’s duly elected parliamentary candidate, which for us is against the party’s constitution, especially Article 44 (b, c, e),” he stated.

“You need to support the party’s decision. Your actions and inactions should not contradict the decisions of the party because if the party has a candidate that they have elected and as an official of the party who goes on radio to speak on behalf of the party, you cannot go and campaign for an independent candidate against a duly elected parliamentary candidate of the party, so he was invited before the regional executive committee and his attitude and behaviour were improper.

“The decision of the party, therefore, was that he be suspended for three months and the matter referred to the disciplinary committee," Mr Annor-Dompreh added.
