As Ghana heads to the polls on December 7, Former Finance Minister Seth Terkper says any political party that forms the next government in the year 2025 will take over an economy in a sorry state.

Making his point on Ultimate FM’s Breakfast Show, he cautioned Ghanaians to be measured in their expectations of an economic paradise in the short term insisting that the country can at best begin seeing some recovery beyond 2028.

“The figures in their own projections show that we are not going to be in any paradise in 2028, Terkper told host Julius Caesar Anadem.

“Anybody who dreams of taking over this economy is not dreaming that he will bring Ghana to its paradise in four years’ time according to their own timetable and figures they have agreed with the IMF. Ghana will need a huge amount of money to pay its debts including the IMF loans which have to be repaid from 2026, 2027, and 2028 onwards”, he explained.

Mr. Terkper stated that he had already gone through the figures with the former president John Dramani Mahama who is seeking another term in office on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress.

“There is no delusion that my boss is going to take over the country. I have been blunt to tell our flag bearer that you are going to take over an economy with no respect and so we shouldn’t come into that complacency at all,” he disclosed.

Mr. Terkper however argued that the NDC has historically demonstrated remarkable experience providing solutions during crisis situations having settled huge arrears occasioned by a Single Spine Salary Scheme, resolved the country’s Dumsor crisis, and invested in key income-generating infrastructure including the Kotoka International Airport Terminal 3; Ghana’s gas processing plant and a host of others which continue to benefit Ghana till date.
