Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, the running mate to the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) Presidential Candidate, has implored citizens to adopt a conciliatory tone in their public discourse to avert conflicts as Ghana gears up for the 2024 general election.

She emphasized the importance of peace in national and local development and urged the public to refrain from using offensive and incendiary language in political discussions.

Prof. Opoku Agyemang delivered these remarks at the grand durbar, which marked the culmination of the 2024 Bakatue Festival of the chiefs and people of Elmina. The festival drew a multitude of Ghanaians and expatriates who thronged the ancient coastal city.

Celebrated annually, the festival offers prayers of appreciation to the gods and seeks blessings for a prosperous fishing year.

This year's celebration, themed "Patronising Made-in-Ghana Goods and Services to Enhance Economic Development: The Role of the People of Anomansa," highlighted the significance of supporting local industries.

"One careless statement can turn Ghana upside down, and we don't want that to happen to us. We cannot achieve anything without peace, and that depends on what we say," Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated.

"We all know that Ghana is facing economic challenges, and this is the time to unite and find solutions rather than engaging in internal strife," she added.

Solomon Appiah, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipal Assembly, representing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, echoed the call for unity and peace. He also highlighted the government's accomplishments in the Municipality, including the construction of a new fishing harbour.
