A 53-year-old business woman and gender activist, Evelyn Serwaa Bonsu, has been chosen as the vice-presidential candidate for the Ghana Union Movement (GUM).
She will be partnering with the leader and founder of the party, Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, for the 2024 presidential elections scheduled for December 7.
Evelyn Serwaa Bonsu, a mother of three from the Ashanti region, was introduced during the party's manifesto launch in Accra on Saturday.
The presidential candidate of GUM, Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, noted during the introduction that the selection of Evelyn Serwaa Bonsu as the party's vice-presidential candidate was unanimously approved by the National Executives of the party.
According to the leader and founder, her inclusion was based on her passion for fostering sustainable economic growth and industrialization by revitalizing all Kwame Nkrumah factories.
"She aims to utilize her knowledge and experience to bring about positive change in Ghana, advocating for inclusive policies for women, poverty alleviation, and attracting international investment to Ghana," he told the party supporters.
In her acceptance speech, Evelyn Serwaa Bonsu promised to invest in girls' education at the post-secondary level to promote gender equity.
She added that "GUM will invest in healthcare, education, especially for girls pursuing post-secondary education, and infrastructure to create jobs and stimulate growth."
To ensure that the country's resources benefit all citizens, she stated, "we will address corruption, ensure accountability, even among the appointees of our next government."
Evelyn Serwaa Bonsu concluded her address by appealing to Ghanaians to support GUM's presidential candidate, Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, and the party to restore their "lost hope" by voting them into government in the December 7 polls.
