Alhaji Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper East Regional Minister, asserts that no candidate should be barred from campaigning in any part of the region for the upcoming 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

He reports that attempts have been made to prevent candidates from campaigning in the Bawku Municipality and its environs, and he cautions those involved to cease such actions, declaring, "We will not tolerate that."

Alhaji Dr. Salih issued this warning while addressing the Bissas at the outdooring ceremony of a new Bissa Chief, Kir Salifu Mahama Awinaba, in the Pusiga Traditional Area.

His statement responded to incidents where posters of the New Patriotic Party's flagbearer, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, were removed in parts of the Bawku enclave, while those of the Party's Parliamentary Candidates and candidates from other political parties remained untouched.

"Information reaching us indicates that some miscreants are claiming that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the NPP, will not be allowed to campaign in this area.

"You can only close your ears and eyes, but nobody can prevent Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia from campaigning, nor can anyone stop any Parliamentary Candidate from campaigning," he stated.

Alhaji Dr. Salih added that some politicians wearing NPP T-shirts featuring pictures of Dr. Bawumia were threatened. "Please, if you continue to do that, it will be a threat to our infant democracy," he warned.

He reminded residents that Ghana is a democratic country, and anyone aspiring to any position must be given the opportunity to campaign anywhere in the country without hindrance.

The Minister, who chairs the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), assured the populace that REGSEC would maintain peace and harmony throughout the region, enabling all candidates to campaign freely.

Highlighting the significance of the Chieftaincy institution in nation-building, the Minister noted that Chieftaincy could mobilize people for development. He commended the Chief of Pusiga for allowing the Bissas to elect their leader from among themselves.

Alhaji Dr. Salih emphasized that development is impossible without peace and urged the newly enskinned Chief to ensure that peace continues to prevail in the traditional area.

"Pusiga has the potential to be a significant place in the Upper East Region, and it is my expectation that all of you will support Pusiga Naba to ensure that peace continues to reign in this traditional area," the Minister stated.

He also praised the Chiefs and people in the Bawku enclave for maintaining peace over the past three months and expressed hope that this peace would persist, allowing the government to contribute further to the area's development projects.
