Electoral Commission to train 80,000 party agents

Eighty thousand party agents are to be trained by the electoral commission to observe the forthcoming voters registration exercise at the various registration centres.

Each centre will be manned by three registration officials and four party agents who will maintain a constant presence.

An official of the commission, who conceded that the were lapses in the methods previously applied in the various exercises which affected the credibility of the voters, said the new procedures are set to correct those mistakes.

For instance, a series of residential training courses are being organised by the commission with assistance from Danish and US agencies to enable the commission come out with competent registration staff capable of producing a credible voters register.

He urged Ghanaians, especially chiefs, to ensure that all eligible voters in their areas of jurisdiction turn up to register.
