Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, Member of Council of State, has urged family members of Late Alhaj Aliu Mahama to stay united and ensure that the values and principles that the former vice president stood for are maintained.
“This is an opportunity for the family members to unite and stand for what he stood for, pray daily for Almighty Allah to accept his soul and honour him by continuing the works he always wanted to accomplish”, he said.
Alhaji Iddrisu said this when he led a government delegation to the 40th day prayer for the former Vice President at his East Cantonments residence on Sunday.
He said the 40th day prayer which signifies Muslims belief in spirituality to conduct intercessory prayer for his soul, was an opportunity for self-counseling for all towards national unity.
Alhaji Iddrisu, who described the late vice president as a friend and political colleague noted it was a sad day to have such a gathering without him.
Present at the prayer ground were Former president John Agyeikum Kuffour and other party functionaries.
Alhaji Mahama was born on March 3, 1946 at Yendi and schooled at the Tamale Secondary School from where he proceeded to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) where he graduated as a Building Technology Engineer.
The late Alhaji Mahama served as Vice President o of Ghana, from 2001 to 2008 under President John Agyeikum Kuffour.
He passed on at the Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Friday November 1 2012 at the age of 66, and was buried at his private residence in Kalpohin, Tamale.
