Fanteakwa Assembly approves Ceasar's nomination

Begoro, Oct 21, GNA - The Fanteakwa District Assembly on Thursday approved the President's nomination of the incumbent District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Ceasar, by a 42-1 vote at Begoro. The election became possible following the striking out of a motion earlier filed at Koforidua High Court by a citizen of the district, Mr Daniel Obeng Asihene, challenging the President's re-nomination of Mr Ofoe Ceasar based on his alleged involvement in financial malpractices when he was bursar in a secondary school in Accra.

The court, presided over by Mr Justice Tom Bentil, on Tuesday struck out the case after counsel for the defendant, Mr George Essampong of the Attorney General's Department, told the court that the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Yaw Barimah, had intervened to settle the case out of court.

Mr Barimah said he was happy about the show of magnanimity and compromises that led to the amicable settlement of the dispute and urged those who opposed the nomination to leave the past behind them so as to pursue the development of the district which had "been frozen several months" due to the dispute.

Mr Ceasar thanked President Kufuor for his re-nomination and approval by the assembly and said the endorsement was a victory for the assembly members and assured them that the development of Fanteakwa would continue to be his goal.

He appealed to them to forget the past bickering and work together to bring development to the people.

The Presiding Member, Nana Boadu-Sah, expressed his appreciation to the members and called for co-operation from all for the DCE to move the district forward.
