Five Political Parties in the Jomoro District have appealed to the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) to educate Ghanaians on the portion of the constitution which empowers political parties to challenge election results at the Supreme Court if not satisfied.
This will avert the situation whereby the public, out of ignorance, will blame a political party that will challenge election results in future for “trying to bring trouble into the country”.
The representatives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Peoples National Convention (PNC), National Democratic Party (NDP) and the Progressive People's Party (PPP) made the appeal at an Inter Party Dialogue Committee meeting at Half Assini at the weekend.
The Jomoro District Director of NCCE, Mr Francis Obeng Boampong said Article 64, clause One, of the 1992 constitution stated that any Ghanaian could challenge election results within 21 days on declaration at the Supreme Court.
He therefore urged Ghanaians not to perceive the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a troublesome party in its attempt to challenge the December 7 Presidential election result at the Supreme Court if it has the requisite evidence.
According to him, if aggrieved parties were not allowed to contest the result at the court, they would harbour some diabolic ideas or resort to certain actions that could create trouble in the country.
Mr Boampong appealed to Ghanaians to continue to maintain the existing peace in the country to enhance development
