Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, former National Chairman of National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for returning former President John Dramani Mahama to the Presidency in the December 7 polls.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the Office of President-elect John Dramani Mahama at Cantonment in Accra, ahead of the President-elect’s victory speech, Ofosu-Ampofo noted that he was humbled by the massive victory of the Party in both the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections across the whole country.
He said the Party’s victory cuts across all 16 regions of the country, citing that the Party won all 15 Parliamentary seats in the Upper East Region, all 13 Parliamentary seats in the Upper West Region, all seven seats in the Savannah Region, all nine parliamentary seats in Oti Region and all 18 seats in the Volta Region.
Touching on Mahama’s performance in the Eastern Region, Ofosu-Ampofo said: “It’s almost green because, from the provisional results that I got, it’s about 47.7 percent. And this is about the highest we have gotten since, if I’m not mistaken, maybe since 1996. We are almost up to 48 percent. The good news is that we are close to the gap.”
“…And it shows the kind of work that we can do. And I want to give my heart to the people of this region, and the chiefs and people, the leadership of the Party, and the officials on the Regional level.”
Ofosu-Ampofo thanked the chiefs and people of each of the 16 regions of the country for their massive support for President-elect John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.
Other dignitaries who have arrived at the President-elect’s Office for his victory speech after the Electoral Commission’s declaration include Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the NDC, and Haruna Iddrisu, a former Minority Leader and NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South.
