Former NDC Chairman salutes grassroot supporters

Alhaji Abdallah Ahmed Abdallah, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has advised delegates of the party’s upcoming Constituency, Regional and National Executive Congress to elect leaders who are committed to the party.

He also called on prospective candidates who are filling for positions to be concerned about the welfare of party members and supporters especially those at the grassroots.

Alhaji Abdallah popularly known as "Alhaji PMC” who gave the advise when he granted an interview with Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday, called on delegates to elect qualified, dedicated and committed people who have the heart to accommodate issues that has the tendency to destroy the party.

"Elections are won at the Constituency levels," he said.

Alhaji Abdallah who is a former Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NDC said the party National Executives should be transformed into an advisory body to take decisions that are in the good interest of members of the party and not decisions that encroach on the rights of supporters.

He said party executives should focus on grassroot supporters who are the party's strongest mobilisation base in the wards, branch and constituency levels.

"Delegates should elect leaders who are accessible and can be contacted at any time, committed and dedicated."

Alhaji Abdallah said the upcoming congress of the party should be used to reconcile the party members and not as a destructive weapon.

He said delegates who are being given gifts by candidates to encourage their bids and to vote for them should be taken, but delegates should make wise decisions that would put the party first and not individual interests.

Alhaji Abdallah called on members and supporters of the party to desist from making statements that has the tendency to disunite the party.

He noted that the imposition of some Municipal and District Chief Executives as Parliamentary Candidates on the electorates should be discouraged in party circles.

He said: "I salute supporters at the grassroots for their hardwork, selflessness, sacrifices and commitment in working for the party."
