Accra, July 29, GNA - Four Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives of the Greater Accra Region were on Friday sworn into office following their approval by their respective assemblies. They were Mr Stanley Adjiri Blankson of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mr David Annang of Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA); Mr Daniel Teye Adjowerh-Nortey, Dangbe West District Assembly and Mr Eric Busby Quartey-Papafio, Ga West District Assembly. Two other nominees for Ga East and the Dangbe East District are yet to be approved.
On behalf of the president, Sheik I. C. Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister, led them to swear the oath of office and secrecy after which they were handed with the President's Instrument of appointment. In an address, he urged the Chief Executives to corporate with the public and civil servants to achieve their set objectives. Sheik Quaye said as officers, they should not lord it over their subordinates but rather avail themselves as servants to ensure social cohesion and development. He admonished the Chief Executives to utilize the 80 million dollars the Government had sourced for development projects in the Region to the benefit of the people.
The Minster also called on the Chief Executives to ensure that people registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and urged them to strengthen sub-metro and urban structures to make them operational and effective. Mr Adjiri-Blankson, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, acknowledge that in the second and last term of President John Agyekum Kufuor, it behoved them to work hard to leave a good footprint behind. He urged the media and the public to rally behind them to bring about the desired development saying if the Region was to be made vibrant the collaboration of all was needed.
