Four political parties express commitment to do clean politics

Four political parties in the Northern Region have expressed their commitment to adhere to the Political Parties Code of Conduct for Election 2012.

They are Peoples National Convention (PNC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) and Convention Peoples Party (CPP).

The youth leaders and communication teams of the parties made the expression at a day’s workshop in Tamale.

The workshop was organised by Northern Ghana Aid (NOGAID), an NGO to build the capacity of the communication teams of the political parties as well as radio presenters to ensure peace before, during and after the General Election in a region noted to be a flash point for political violence.

The workshop falls under NOGAID Northern Region 2012 Multi-Party Democratic Governance Support Project, sponsored by STAR Ghana, a multi-donor pooled funding organisation to increase the influence of civil society and parliament in the governance of public goods and service delivery with the ultimate goal of improving the accountability and responsiveness of government, traditional authorities and the private sector.

The parties also agreed to sustain the relative peace in the region by adopting issue-based campaigns.

The PNC was led by Mr. Zakaria Yakubu while the New Patriotic Party members were represented Mr. Iddrisu Alooma, Abukari Iddrisu for PPP and Mr. Haruna Hamza for the CPP.

The participants were led through the political parties code of conduct 2012 and good political communication.**
