Former Member of Parliament for the people of Adenta Constituency Yaw Buaben Asamoa has described the free campaign promises norm by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) as an archaic way of politicking

Speaking in an interview on Angel Morning Show, he said, “What are they rushing for? With free SHS, parents are lamenting because of the expenses it comes with; everything free is old politics.”

Elaborating further on the ruling government’s free SHS policy, he said a critical analysis should be conducted to ascertain the benefits a child would get after enjoying free education.

“What we are supposed to look out for are the procedures put in place for the child after the free education…whether the payments are made by the government or the parents, what we must look into is a good stance for the child,” he said.

Moving forward, he said the free SHS education policy must be reviewed, something he said is captured in “The Great Transformational Plan of the Movement for Change” led by Alan Kyerematen.

“Conduct a comprehensive review of the free SHS program with review to improving its operationalization particularly, in respect of financial sustainability, infrastructural requirement, curriculum development, capacity building for teachers and non-teaching staff and transitioning free SHS graduates to tertiary education,” he said.

He reiterated that though the free SHS is a good policy the most important part is to review the program to have a positive impact.

He further stated that this plan would be executed if Ghanaians voted for Alan Kyerematen to become Ghana’s next President.

The former NPP man was speaking on the need to have a proper educational transition in the wake of free education policies in the country.
