A flag bearer hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof Joshua Alabi, has begun raising funds publicly to pay the GHS420,000 nomination and filing fee demanded by his party.
All male flag bearer hopefuls are to pay GHS400,000 as filing fee in addition to the GHS20,000 nomination form.
The party took the decision at a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday, 29 November at its headquarters in Accra. According to the party, all aspirants have 10 days to submit the properly filled forms.
Although Prof Alabi’s camp has said the amount is “outrageous”, they are confident the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) will still contest for the position DC.
To support the Alabi campaign, donors are to dial *737*357# on all mobile telecommunication networks except Glo or visit www.profjoshuaalabi.org.
Prof Alabi said he intends to “tackle corruption by first tackling the funding of political campaigns”, adding: “That is why I have decided to build this mass movement on the convictions and donations of the Ghanaian citizens. This is my pledge that my allegiance will be to you.”
