Ghana would have peaceful election in December -MP

Mr Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, Member of Parliament for Dormaa-West, on Friday said Ghana would go through the December elections peacefully because of the measures put in place to stem any mishap.

He said steps being put in place by political parties, interest groups and other relevant agencies, coupled with the Ghanaians’ lust for peace, would guide the nation through another monumental history come December 7, 2012.

He stressed that Ghanaians possessed all the necessary ingredients for peace before, during and after the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

The MP expressed the optimism at Dormaa-Ahenkro during a musical concert by the Inspirational Melodies, a Dormaa-based non-denominational musical group, dubbed “Election 2012 – War Free”.

It was watched by a large crowd and stakeholders in the municipality, who were invited to discuss the need for peace during the build-up towards the 2012 elections.

Mr Agyemang-Manu said there were on-going collaborative measures among constitutionally-mandated institutions, traditional authorities, religious and opinion leaders, the youth and civil society, all geared towards the need to protect the peace.

“Consequently, it will be odd for any individual or group to defy any of these processes and attempt to foment chaos and plunge any part of the country into anarchy”, he said.

He commended the musical group for its decision to proclaim the word of God and announced his desire to facilitate the formation of a youth choir for the Dormaa Traditional Area, as a tool for the propagation of Dormaa culture.

Mr Agyemang-Manu urged Ghanaians to be aware of political charlatans and endeavour to sieve and embrace the right messages from political parties.

The Reverend James Oduro Yeboah, General Overseer of the Glorious Bible Church at Dormaa Ahenkro, in a sermon, reminded Ghanaians that the tongue was the most sensitive part of the human-being and had the capacity to defile the entire body.

He therefore advised politicians to refrain from making inflammatory statements, particularly on the air-waves for the sustenance of the nation’s peace.

The General Overseer appealed to the media and the youth to avoid being used by self-seeking politicians for their selfish interests.

Mr Charles Ohene Gyan, founder and leader of the Inspirational Melodies musical group, said the concert was aimed at promoting unity among local Christian Churches in Dormaa-Ahenkro and to provide gospel music to soothe the spiritual needs of the vulnerable in society.

He announced that similar peace concerts would be organised for Dormaa-East and the newly-created Dormaa-West Districts, to ensure peace during the 2012 polls.**
