Ghanaians asked to bury their political differences

Ajumako Bisease (C/R), Jan. 16, GNA - The Acting District Chief Executive for the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Mr Kenneth Obimpong has called on Ghanaians to bury their political differences and come together towards the development of the nation.

Mr Obimpong made the call when closing the four-day special prayer and thanksgiving service of the Roman Catholic Women Association from the Cape Coast Arch Diocese at Ajumako Bisease on Friday. Over a million people attended the occasion that marked the "Feast of the Holy Family (International Years of the Family) under the theme, "The Family- Basic Unit of Society".

Topics discussed including the Family Structures, Challenges Involved, Weakening of Parental Responsibilities, Causes and Effects, and Exploitation of Children.

In a resolution, the women said programmes on televisions should be reviewed and those unhealthy for children and those that do not promote the welfare of women and children be removed.

They said that sexy films and adverts on alcoholic drinks and dangerous drugs should be looked into and for something to be done about that, adding that, various types of child labour and exploitation were still on the increase and called on the authorities to help stop it. They appealed to the government to fully implement provisions enshrined in the Rights of the Child and the Matrimonial Act of 1963 Act. 327.

In a sermon, Rev. Father Anthony Enningful, Parish Priest in charge of the St. Michael, Catholic Church called on Christians to let their good works be seen in the light. He told them to be good role models and shinning example, and exhibit leadership qualities for people to emulate.
